Perhaps you have been invited to a unique occasion meriting a gift that doesn't fall into the traditional celebrations of the majority of Americans.
A Bar Mitzvah celebration coming your way? Maybe a certain day approaches that might be outside your realm of experience?
The Internet is your guide! You can research the celebration and get some great ideas.
Don't forget: an honest inquiry might point to the best gift!

Christmas is over
Christmas is over.
For most of the world that celebrates this time of the year, that means selecting that personalized gift will wait until a birthday, anniversary or other special day in a loved one's life.
But it doesn't have to be. Perhaps it shouldn't be. And I am not necessarily talking about purchasing a gift.
The elderly and infirm increase in number to record levels. Despite the increase in the quantity of life, there may be a decrease in the quality of life. Those who are in their 40's or 50's or 60's are nodding their heads in agreement. We aren't as nimble, as strong or as quick in rebounding from aches and pains as we were not so many years ago.
There are those who can use a gift of your time. Maybe a visit for light conversation. Maybe an invitation to go food shopping. If sidewalks are covered with snow, spend a few extra minutes with your snow thrower and help them out.
Gifts come in all forms. Selecting the right one is an art.

Tis the Season
This is the season for gift giving! Enjoy it! Try not to be stressed. Remember it is special treat to pick out that perfect gift for that beloved friend or family member. There are so many shopping opportunities for the shopper this time of year. The stores are having big sales. Super sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Isn't the hunt fun? This is all well and good but, if you want to get something different, something unusual, try the local Holiday Craft and Vendor shows. I have been selling many of my Christmas items at such places this season. I make sure before the doors open to the customers that I get around to the other tables to look at all the wonderful and unusual items people have to sell. I have seen bracelets made from antique silver flatware, glass blown hot air balloons, metal ornaments from a co-op in Bali, and handbags made from woven juices boxes collected by the weavers' children in Korea. What wonderful awe-inspiring gifts! Many of my friends and family have been delighted receivers of such treasures found at the local Craft Show. Most papers list these events held by fire houses, churches, and schools. You will not be disappointed! Enjoy the hunt!

The Housewarming Gift
You have been invited to a friends new home for the first time. What do you bring? A safe and most common gift is a bottle of wine or a plant or flowers. These are especially good if you do not know their taste. But would it not be more fun to bring something different? Perhaps a pillow with a nice saying stitched on it or some sachets in a basket. Recently I found a gift idea I am very excited about and is perfect for this Autumn season. I ordered some lovely autumn leaf shaped soaps. Each leaf is for a one time use. I arranged them in a lenox type shallow dish, put it in a clear wrap and tied it up with a pretty orange bow and fall flower pick! Voila! Something different and useful. I will post the link to these lovely soaps in my "site to share" below.

A new adventure for the College Freshman.
Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles all help with the college freshman's necessities. There are bed linens, shelves, computers, books and towels to buy. Here are a few other ideas you may want to consider.
* A gift card to Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts nestled inside a thermal mug. Coffee is great for late study nights!
* A carry-all tote filled with toiletry items so they can just grab it and bring it to the bathroom.
* A good backpack is a must. Fill it with useful items such as insulated lunch bags, water bottles, and a Sudoku or word puzzle book to play with between classes.
* A photo album filled with all the people that matter.
* A box of funny and/or inspirational notes if a "pick me up" is needed.
Don't forget to wrap it up nicely, after all, this is a very special time.

Treats for the Traveler
I am just back from a road trip vacation. Though being away is nice, there is nothing like one's own bed. I have to share with you this idea my sweet daughter did for us. Before we left, she stopped over with the most adorably decorated gift bag showing all modes of travel. Inside she had put Popcorn to pop in a hotel microwave, large cups to hold the popcorn, tea bags, hard candies, granola, napkins and wipes, and a small candle in glass to perfume a stuffy room. We made use of everything in that thoughtful bag. So next time you know of someone taking a trip, why not do the same?
I am a big fan and owner of Steuben Glass. Since we stopped at the Corning Museum, this will be my site to share in this blog.
